Avoid the debt consolidation scammers
When you are seeking help or debt relief, there is nothing worse than being scammed by a company representing a way to solve all of your problems. However, they are plenty of scams out there today promising to take all of your debt woes away and instead, create a lot more for you.
There are several things to look for in a debt consolidation scam. The first one is they ask for money up front. There are certain laws in place stating this isn’t legal to do. They shouldn’t ask for money up front from you.
Many of the debt consolidation services will tell you things like: dispute all of your credit, so what if you really owe it or it is in fact, true…dispute. They will tell you not to contact the credit bureau in your area and they will likely want you to set up a new EIN number which is an Employer Identification Number. This will help you “wipe your debts away.”
When it is time to consolidate your debts, you shouldn’t have to look over your shoulder. There are a lot of good companies out there willing to help you get out of debt in a quick time frame. However, if you are timid about using a debt consolidation service, check online for feedback from customers, call the credit bureau, call the Better Business Bureau and research everything you can so you can make an informed decision.
There is no reason for you to be afraid to do business with debt consolidation services but if you aren’t careful, the wrong one may make you wish you were. You wouldn’t want to do business with someone you don’t know in child care or assisted living for your parents. Don’t do business with someone you don’t know in debt consolidation because your family is depending on you to make good, informed decisions. Don’t let them down. Find a company you can count on and one that’s been around for some time.
The best policy to have when you begin to search for a debt consolidation service is to find one willing to help without jotting down your banking information. See how eager the counselors are to help you when you don’t trust them with your personal information. Also, check out the Better Business Bureau for more information on the debt consolidation companies you are considering. They should be able to tell you of any bad reports on the company you’re considering.
